Crypto Unicorns is a play-and-earn, web-based digital pet collection and farming game built on Polygon. Its core gameplay loop entails building land along with a farming simulation where land resources like berries can be grown and unicorns can be bred, hatched, and evolved. The former can be used for facilitating the unicorns’ growth while unicorns can be put to work on the lands ranging from gathering quests to crafting in-game items to building facilities like stables and workshops.
Future gameplay loops will also include jousting, racing, and battling in PvE and PvP environments. These will involve the RPG elements of the unicorns, where the unicorns’ different classes with different attributes will affect the gameplay mechanics that determine the success of the players’ challenges.
Described in the picture above are the assets that are tradable in the game and have their respective functionalities in the game. The avatars are of ERC-721 token standards (NFTs) while the in-game resources and game tokens are of ERC-20 token standards.

From January ’22 till March’22, the unicorn NFTs have seen their value increased by 169% while the land NFTs had more than doubled their value. This may be an indication of the players’ conviction in the game – should buying continue at this point, we should expect the value of their NFTs to increase as we approach the game launch due in the second week of April.
On the other hand, the high values of NFTs suggest high costs to entry which may inhibit the growth of new wallets into the game. Currently, to own both base unicorn and land NFTs will cost about USD 4,500 (assuming ETH is USD 3,800).
However, this problem should not persist especially when the breeding mechanism is enabled in the game to increase the supply of unicorns. Even if price decreases were not significant to lower the barrier to entry, there are also play-and-earn components (more to also be activated later in the game) that will allow owners to recuperate some of the costs incurred in purchasing the NFTs. This also goes without mentioning the guild functions where new players can rent out NFTs to play the game.
The game takes on a dual token model with Rainbow token (RBW) and Unicorn Milk (UNIM) The former is a governance token with staking, breeding and staking functionalities to it in addition to voting. Meanwhile, the latter is an in-game currency that is more extensive in terms of functionality and will be primarily used for in-game activities and prizes for tournaments.
